Media Assistant
The BU African American & Black Diaspora Studies Program seeks a creative and hard-working graduate or advanced undergraduate student for the Fall 2023 Semester. The Media Assistant will collaborate with the Program Coordinator to ensure our communications are accessible and impactful and reach stakeholder audiences that benefit most from our work.
Tasks will include creating new marketing materials to communicate our work and events, improving the accessibility and design of the BU AFAM website using WordPress, and assisting with the management of our social media pages and newsletter. Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: To be eligible, applicant must be a current BU student and possess:
- Organization skills and attention to details
- Professional attitude and self-motivation
- Graphic design and written communication skills
- Demonstrated interest in African American & Black Diaspora Studies
- Experience with Canva
- Experience with Mailchimp
- Experience with WordPress and/or HTML
- Experience managing social media accounts and Hootsuite
- Experience with Asana is a plus
Hours are flexible and may vary, but will be about 8-10 hours per week.
Pay: $15-$16.50+ (depending on experience).

Office Assistant
The BU African American & Black Diaspora Studies Program seeks a creative and hard-working undergraduate student for the Fall 2023 Semester. The Office Assistant will collaborate with the Program Coordinator to ensure our communications are accessible and impactful and reach stakeholder audiences that benefit most from our work.
This position serves as the organization's first point of contact for all incoming phone and email correspondence and is critical in supporting communications and events, as well as office maintenance. They will also facilitate our student departmental club and/or assist with annual Cuba Spring Break Course planning. Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: To be eligible, applicant must be a current BU undergraduate student and possess:

- Demonstrated interest in African American & Black Diaspora Studies
- Experience with Canva

The preferred candidate for this position has excellent computer knowledge including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; strong verbal and written communication skills; experience with and interest in social media and/or digital communications; excels at bouncing between multiple projects; and is detail-oriented. Prior office experience and interest in or knowledge of African American & Black Diaspora Studies is a plus.
To be considered, students must be available Mon-Thurs for a minimum of two 3-hour shifts/week. There will also be opportunities for evening event support as students are available. Total hours will range from 6-12 hours per week. Pay: $15-$16.50 (depending on experience).
